The Blue House is an international art project initiated by the artist Jeanne van Heeswijk. In 2005 a large villa in a housing block was taken off the private market and re-designated as a space for community research, artistic production and cultural activities. The project was situated in a newly built neighbourhood suburb of the city of Amsterdam called IJburg.
Over a four-year period, artists, architects, thinkers, writers and scholars of various nationalities where invited to live and work in The Blue House. Over fifty residents got the assignment of actively entering into a dialogue with one another, with their co-inhabitants in IJburg, and with the public. During its physical existence on IJburg The Blue House functioned like a catalyst for an accelerated formulation of history.

Programme: http://www.akademie-graz.at

Instead of boxing people up concerning their ethnic difference, we focus on the multilayered individual identity. The attribution of certain identities starts the mechanism of exclusion. Life and culture of the Roma are characterized by the experience of being excluded and displaced.
