This is the second exhibition within a project series circling around the notion of the Arrival City. The specific city is Graz, Austria's second largest town, and the involved artistic works all were developed in a certain area of this town – the Annenviertel district, which is since hundreds of years a place for newly arrived immigrants to go, to make contacts, to settle down.

“New Graz” provides a stage for people who at some point in the past set up home here and their narrations of how they approached their new centre of living respectively how they were welcomed by the Arrival City.

E.g., in the video installation of Severin Hirsch four people from former Yugoslavia tell their stories about arriving, their arrival in a foreign country and their specific relationships with places and people in this city which they have built up over time. Or, to mention another piece, Maryam Mohammadi and Joachim Hainzl have worked together with youngsters and adults who fled from Afghanistan and came to Graz in the last 12 months. Their contribution to the exhibition is about how these new arrivals make this city accessible for themselves and use it.

Several other presented artworks were developed during the festival steirischer herbst in the frame of the House of Open Gates.
During four weeks in September and October 2016 this was an temporary open project room where people from all backgrounds and various artistic disciplines could meet to critically discuss existing conditions and conjure up dreams of a life of freedom, justice and solidarity.
