In the industrial suburb of Ústí
nad Labem (CZ), a large number of art projects have been carried out under
the patronage of the Faculty of Art and Design of the Jan Evangelista
Purkyně University (FAD/UJEP) since the 1990s. The district in focus
is called Předlice. It is marked by long-term deprivation, from which
the local population, mostly Romani inhabitants, suffers strongly. Diverse
forms of collaborative and participatory interventions, initiated by various
artists, scholars, and students, have led to numerous cooperations with
the local inhabitants. The exhibition presents a selection of works and
interventions that have been realised in Předlice and discusses the
possibilities and limitations of artistic work within peripheric social
contexts of exclusion. CARTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP An ongoing process of collective mapping is taking place, encompassing the three locations Volksgarten, Andrä-Platz and Griesplatz. For information about participation and workshops, contact: 0316 / 688 306, rotor@mur.at CMRK GRAZ / 13
