Intention of the Sarajevo part of the Balkan Konsulat project, is to presented
this new art scene developed after the war including Bosnian artists living
in the country or abroad whose works are reflecting the social and political
situation, and artists from the region who are in different ways connected
with Sarajevo, both influencing the scene and influenced by it. Creation
of this new scene is closely connected with the activity of the Sarajevo
Center for Contemporary Arts, founded in 1997.
The works of the artists presented at the exhibition are dealing with different
issues which are at the same time specific for the country with war experience
and global, such as: problem of displacement and notion of a home (Sejla
Kameric, Danica Dakic); consequences of the war (Vanda Vukicevic); closeness
and fear of death (Aleksandra Vajd); fears and feelings caused by living
in urban surroundings (Lala Rascic); isolation and impossibility to integrate
to domestic (Slaven Tolj) or foreign society (Kristina Leko).
Archive presented in Balkan Konsulat café will be comprised from
selection of video works, films, catalogs, and artist's documentation
from and about Sarajevo.
