>> Artist Talk with
YEVGENIA BELORUSETS

Monday, 5 October 2015, 7pm
at < rotor >, Volksgartenstraße 6a, 8020 Graz

The event takes place in the frame of the exhibition
"That´s not my history!".

In the current < rotor >-exhibition, Yevgenia Belorusets takes part with an installation, using photography and text. Several trips of the Kiev-based artist into the east of Ukraine, into the area of the embattled city of Donetsk, are the starting point of this work. There, she took photographs of mine workers, who went to work as usual despite the war and although they had not been paid for a long time.

Along with this series of photographs, Yevgenia Belorusets developed the text of a (fictional) phone conversation between a caller whose statements can be read and a person in the battle zone whose statements the viewers must add in their minds. Moreover, she designed the cover of the (fictional) Today's Paper. All three levels—the photographs, the phone conversation, and the newspaper—are reflections on the normalcy of peace and the absurdity of war, on the logics of peace and war, and art’s position.

Yevgenia Belorusets, born 1980 in Kiev, lives in Kiev
