Who sets the trend? What does the editor concentrate on? Certain art movements, the local scene, a certain geopolitical space, international tendencies within contemporary art? Who writes the contributions? Who buys the magazine and who pays for it? This discussion confronts two representatives of art magazines from the eastern part of Europe with two editors of magazines from Western Europe. The choice, however, has a deliberate aim because Umelec and Balkon have become some of the most important information media on the one hand, and nu: and springerin have published an enormous amount of articles over the last years which have dealt with art from Eastern Europe. <<
