The place you call yours – does it belong to you, or do you belong to it?

In 2024, the curatorial collective ACE conducted research in Celje, made possible by the Residency Programme of the Styrian State Government and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Based on this, an exhibition was put together for the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Celje, which is now followed by its second version at < rotor >.

Our communication with the city constantly recreates it, everyone who lives in it builds their own version of the city, and in the end, any city is a collective fantasy, a shared responsibility, and the result of mutual trust.

This exhibition shows the artistic engagement with the diverse communities and generations in Celje and Graz, their visions and experiences. It seeks to highlight the ways people interact with their urban surroundings, showcasing the personal and collective contributions that shape a city’s identity.

The first version of this exhibition was created in the frame of the curator exchange programme of the Styrian State Government and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum Ljubljana and took place at Center for Contemporary Art Celje.
