For the Conversation: Beyond Extractivist Aesthetics, moderated by Eray Cayli, participants will engage in a discussion that draws from his book “The Aesthetics of Extractivism in Turkey’s Kurdistan”. The talk will reconstruct and compare artistic perspectives from Diyarbakir on the theme of extractivism, reflecting on Cayli’s research from his trips to the region in 2013 and 2019. This conversation will bring together the artists and the curators of the exhibition, fostering a critical dialogue on how art addresses and reflects the environmental and socio-political issues of extractivism.

The Sediment exhibition reflects on the impact of socio-political, ecological, and economic issues on the environments we inhabit. This exhibition’s starting point is based on comprehensive curatorial research in the archive of Loading, a non-profit art space focused on Diyarbakir and its surrounding areas in southeastern Turkey, which provides a layered perspective on the local art scene along with the socio-political and environmental issues affecting the Kurdish-inhabited regions.
