The Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (DÖW) was founded by former resistance fighters, persecuted people, and committed scholars in Vienna in 1963. The extensive inventory of the DÖW also hosts about 200 artworks. These are important documents of the traumatic experience and irrepressible desire for freedom of a generation that was confronted with two cataclysmic wars and two authoritarian regimes—Austrofascism and National Socialism. The selected exhibits of this exhibition provide insight into different fates, journeys through life full of fear, traumata, and in part heroic commitment. Many of them are direct testimonies of imprisonment in a concentration camp, war-related events, escape, and exile.

A Cooperation by GrazMuseum, < rotor > center for contemporary art, Into the City / Wiener Festwochen and the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance.
